In case of continuous heavy rainfall, truck drivers should pay attention to their own safety and the condition of the vehicle. If the vehicle is wading for a long time or the axle is soaked in water, timely inspection and maintenance should be carried out.
If the semi-trailer is soaked in water for a long time and the water level exceeds the wheel hub cover (based on the horizontal plane or the trace line after the water retreats), the following inspections must be carried out before the vehicle is used again:
Open the wheel hub cover of the wheel end system and check whether there are any signs of water ingress inside. If no traces are seen, it means that the situation is relatively minor. If there are traces, further check whether the grease and bearings of the wheel hub system are ineffective or damaged.
After the brake friction pad is soaked, the surface of the brake friction pad is prone to accumulate mud and sand, which affects the braking ability. It should be checked and rinsed with plenty of clean water before it is used again.
Automatic adjustment arm First mark the current clearance position of the self-adjusting arm, then adjust the clearance to the maximum, and brake the vehicle several times to see if the clearance of the self-adjusting arm can return to the original mark position. If it can, it means that the self-adjusting arm is operating normally.
Disc brakes Disc brakes need to check whether there is water ingress at the connection between the air chamber push rod and the brake caliper.
The exhaust hole of the double-chamber air chamber of the brake air chamber is easy to get water under the water surface. The entry of water and sand and gravel will cause air path blockage, and in severe cases, the trailer brake will fail. After immersion in water, you should go to the nearest service station for inspection as soon as possible.
The above are the preliminary inspection items after immersion in water. In order to ensure the long-term use of the vehicle, it is recommended to drive the vehicle to the nearest service station for inspection and maintenance as soon as possible after immersion in water to ensure driving safety.
